Gemini MCP servers & Connected Apps (connectors); custom apps via MCP
Can Gemini use MCP servers, and how do you add one?
As of October 2026, Gemini can use MCP servers. Google's help page says personal-account users of the Gemini app can connect personal or third-party apps by linking their MCP server. Gemini CLI adds servers through settings.json or gemini mcp add, and the Interactions API accepts remote Streamable HTTP MCP servers. Plan requirements and work-account support were not verified.

How to add an MCP server to Gemini
Gemini app (web and mobile)
- Open gemini.google.com and click Customize in the sidebar.
- Select Connectors at the top to browse and connect apps.
- Link a personal or third-party app by its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to add a custom app.
- Use the custom app in chats or task threads.
The page covers personal accounts; work or school accounts have separate guidance. The exact custom-app setup steps are in a linked article that was not fetched. Plans and transport details were not stated.

Gemini CLI
- Add an mcpServers object to settings.json, or run gemini mcp add.
- Set command for stdio, url for SSE, or httpUrl for streamable HTTP.
- Run gemini mcp list to check connection status, or /mcp inside a session.
gemini mcp add --transport http <name> <url>The page says Gemini CLI was replaced by Antigravity CLI on June 18, 2026 for unpaid-tier and Google One users; check which tool applies to your account. Stdio servers only show as connected in trusted folders.

Gemini API (Interactions API)
- Add an entry to the tools configuration with type mcp_server.
- Provide the server name and url, plus optional headers and allowed_tools.
Remote MCP only works with Streamable HTTP servers; SSE is not supported. The Interactions API is described as Generally Available as of June 2026. Support in the Google GenAI SDK itself was not verified.

Before you connect
- Connected Apps require signing in, and availability depends on your Keep Activity setting.
- Availability varies by location, language, device, and Gemini app.
- Gemini CLI: avoid underscores in server names, because the policy parser splits tool names on underscores.
- Interactions API: MCP server names should not contain a hyphen; use snake_case.
Official hosted MCP servers you can try in Gemini
These vendors publish a hosted MCP server. Whether one connects to Gemini also depends on its sign-in method and your plan, so check its verdict page first.
Figma publishes an official MCP server. The remote server at mcp.figma.com/mcp works with Claude, Cursor and VS Code using Figma sign-in, and a desktop variant runs locally. It reads designs and generates code, and the remote server can also write to Figma files. Free-plan and View seat usage is capped at six calls per month.
GitHub publishes an official MCP server, github/github-mcp-server, available as a remote endpoint at api.githubcopilot.com and as a local Docker build. The remote server signs in with OAuth or a personal access token. It includes write tools such as merge_pull_request and delete_repository, so use read-only mode or limited toolsets.
Slack publishes an official remote MCP server at mcp.slack.com/mcp, and Anthropic lists it as a verified Claude connector made by Slack. It uses OAuth with per-tool user scopes, and workspace admins must approve the client. It can send messages and edit canvases, so review permissions before enabling.
Atlassian publishes an official remote MCP server, the Atlassian Rovo MCP server, for Jira, Confluence and other Atlassian apps at mcp.atlassian.com/v2/mcp. It uses OAuth 2.1 and is listed in Anthropic's connector directory. Jira delete and project-admin tools are off by default, and tool calls use Rovo credits.
Datadog publishes an official remote MCP server, hosted by Datadog and documented on docs.datadoghq.com. It connects to Claude, Cursor and VS Code, signs in with OAuth, and covers logs, metrics, traces, monitors and incidents. Write tools exist but require a separate org-level MCP Write Access setting.
Higgsfield documents an official hosted MCP server at mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp on its own help center. You sign in with your Higgsfield account via the browser, with no API key, and it requires an active paid subscription. Claude's connector directory listing was not found, so it is added as a custom connector.

Context7 has an official MCP server published by Upstash (upstash/context7), available remotely at mcp.context7.com/mcp or locally via npx. It fetches current library documentation for coding agents. A free API key is recommended for rate limits. Caveat: the docs it returns are community-contributed, not vetted by Upstash.
Supabase publishes an official MCP server, hosted at mcp.supabase.com/mcp and open source at supabase/mcp, and it is listed in Anthropic's connector directory. It signs in with browser OAuth. The server can run SQL and migrations, so Supabase advises read-only mode and project scoping.
Salesforce publishes official hosted MCP servers (SObject Reads, Mutations, Deletes, All and others) at api.salesforce.com, reported generally available since April 2026. Admins must enable each server, and Claude connects as a custom connector via an External Client App. No directory connector was found. Salesforce's separate local DX server reaches end of life November 2, 2026.
Zapier runs its own hosted MCP server, documented on docs.zapier.com and listed in Anthropic's connector directory as Anthropic verified. It signs in with OAuth and works through Streamable HTTP. AWS publishes an official, managed remote MCP server at aws-mcp.us-east-1.api.aws/mcp, documented on docs.aws.amazon.com and listed in Anthropic's directory as Anthropic verified. It supports OAuth or an API key, and a limited keyless tier. Caveat: its docs instruct agents to send search feedback to Firecrawl by default.

Google labels that server a Developer Preview and signs in with OAuth. Claude's directory lists share and trash tools that Google's own reference does not, so verify.
Claude's Microsoft 365 connector is built by Anthropic, not Microsoft: it reaches SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook and Teams at microsoft365.mcp.claude.com using delegated Entra sign-in, and an Entra admin must grant consent.
