Does Azure DevOps have an official MCP server or Claude connector?

As of October 2026, Microsoft publishes an official Azure DevOps MCP server, both a hosted remote one at mcp.dev.azure.com and a local npm server, documented on Microsoft Learn and in the microsoft GitHub org. The remote server uses Microsoft Entra sign-in and is in preview. Claude Desktop cannot use the remote server; Claude Code needs a custom app registration.

FAQ

Does Azure DevOps have an official MCP server?

Yes. Microsoft publishes a hosted remote server at https://mcp.dev.azure.com/{organization} (preview) and a local npm server, both documented by Microsoft.

Is Azure DevOps a Claude connector?

No Azure DevOps entry was found in Anthropic's directory during research, so this is unconfirmed. Claude Desktop cannot sign in to the remote server.

Can I use it with Claude Code?

Yes, with a custom Microsoft Entra app registration and the claude mcp add command shown in Microsoft's docs.

Can I make it read-only?

Yes. Send the X-MCP-Readonly: true header, and optionally limit toolsets with X-MCP-Toolsets.

Remote or local server?

Microsoft recommends the remote server and says it will eventually replace the local one. Use the local server for clients without Entra support, such as Claude Desktop and Codex.
