Does AWS have an official MCP server or Claude connector?

Official

As of October 2026, AWS publishes an official, managed remote MCP server at aws-mcp.us-east-1.api.aws/mcp, documented on docs.aws.amazon.com and listed in Anthropic's directory as Anthropic verified. Docs search needs no sign-in; AWS API calls use OAuth or SigV4 with your IAM permissions. Read-only mode requires the SigV4 proxy.

Does AWS have an official MCP server?

Yes. The AWS MCP Server is a managed remote server documented on docs.aws.amazon.com and announced as generally available on May 6, 2026. The docs list endpoints in 8 AWS regions.

Is AWS a Claude connector?

Yes. Anthropic's directory lists an AWS MCP connector made by Amazon Web Services and marked Anthropic verified.

Is it free?

AWS says there is no additional charge for the MCP server itself. You pay for AWS resources your agent creates and any data transfer.

Can I make it read-only?

Read-only mode, which hides write-capable tools, is documented for the SigV4 option via the MCP Proxy for AWS. IAM policies or SCPs can also limit actions.

What happened to the AWS API and Knowledge MCP servers?

AWS recommends switching to the managed AWS MCP Server and removing aws-api-mcp-server and aws-knowledge-mcp-server entries to avoid tool conflicts. The awslabs repo says the Agent Toolkit is its successor.
