Does PostHog have an official MCP server or Claude connector?

Official

As of October 2026, PostHog publishes an official remote MCP server at mcp.posthog.com/mcp, documented on posthog.com, built in the PostHog GitHub org, and listed in Anthropic's directory as Anthropic verified. It signs in with OAuth or a personal API key and has a documented read-only mode. Writes are on by default.

Safety check

  • Pass

    Publisher verified

Endpoint on posthog.com, docs on posthog.com, repo in the GitHub-verified PostHog org, and the Claude directory lists it as made by PostHog, Anthropic verified.

  • Pass

    Auth model

OAuth is recommended; a personal API key (MCP Server preset, scoped to one project) as Bearer token is the fallback. Routes to US or EU region by account.

  • Flag

    Write and delete access

Directory lists 57 tools including create, update and delete for dashboards, flags, insights and experiments. A read-only mode removes write tools: send header x-posthog-read-only or query parameter readonly (true or 1).

  • Pass

    Tool-description injection scan

Read the tool definition YAMLs (core, data_management, docs, query-wrappers) in services/mcp/definitions and keyword-scanned them; no AI-directed override or concealment text. Docs pages carry an 'AI agents' llms.txt pointer, benign; the FAQ itself warns about untrusted instructions. Not every definition file was read.

  • Pass

    Repo maintenance

PostHog/posthog monorepo (services/mcp) pushed 2026-10-18, 40,332 stars, not archived. The earlier PostHog/mcp repo is archived and points to the monorepo.

FAQ

Does PostHog have an official MCP server?

Yes. PostHog hosts it at https://mcp.posthog.com/mcp and develops it in its posthog GitHub monorepo under services/mcp.

Is PostHog a Claude connector?

Yes. The Claude directory lists PostHog, made by PostHog and Anthropic verified.

Can I make it read-only?

Yes. Send the x-posthog-read-only header or add ?readonly=true; write tools are removed.

EU or US data?

The server routes you to the US or EU region based on the account you sign in with. Accounts in both regions need separate connections.

Does the server store my analytics data?

PostHog says it acts as a proxy and does not store your analytics data.
