Notion MCP server & Claude connector

Does Notion have an official MCP server or Claude connector?

Official

As of October 2026, Notion runs an official hosted MCP server at mcp.notion.com/mcp, and Anthropic lists it as a verified Claude connector made by Notion. It uses OAuth and works on every Notion plan, with some features limited to Business or Enterprise. It can create, edit and delete pages. The older open-source npm server is no longer maintained.

Claude (claude.ai / Desktop)

Add Notion from the Claude connector directory (Customize > Connectors) and complete OAuth.

Claude Code

Add the remote server, then run /mcp in Claude Code to authenticate.

claude mcp add --transport http notion https://mcp.notion.com/mcp

Cursor

Create .cursor/mcp.json in the project root, then enable Notion and complete OAuth in Cursor.

Safety check

  • Pass

    Publisher verified

Endpoint mcp.notion.com is documented on developers.notion.com as 'a remote MCP server hosted by Notion'; Anthropic's directory lists it as 'Made by Notion' with the same connector URL.

  • Pass

    Auth model

OAuth 2 authorization by default; optional MCP tokens (bearer) for Business and Enterprise, created by workspace owners; Enterprise can use enterprise-managed authorization. Workspace owners can manage and revoke client connections.

  • Flag

    Write and delete access

The tool list includes write and destructive tools (notion-delete-pages, notion-delete-databases, notion-delete-comment, notion-move-pages). No read-only mode was found in the docs read; access is limited to content the connected user can access, and Claude lets you set tool permissions.

  • Pass

    Tool-description injection scan

Read the full Supported tools reference (tool descriptions as documented). Found no instructions aimed at the AI to change behavior, hide actions or exfiltrate data. Live tools/list output was not inspected.

  • Unknown

    Repo maintenance

Hosted by Notion; the server itself has no public repo. See the separate open-source entry for the legacy repo.

Basic tools derived from the Notion API (see README)

  • ⚠ Auth model: Uses a Notion integration token (NOTION_TOKEN, ntn_...) stored in client config; you must share pages with the integration manually.
  • ⚠ Repo maintenance: README states the repo 'is no longer actively maintained or supported' and points users to Remote Notion MCP. Last push 2026-09-20, not archived, 4,671 stars (gh api, 2026-10-18).

FAQ

Does Notion have an official MCP server?

Yes. Notion hosts a remote MCP server at https://mcp.notion.com/mcp, documented at developers.notion.com. Anthropic's directory lists it as made by Notion.

Which Notion plans work with Notion MCP?

Every plan can connect. Business and Enterprise add MCP tokens, higher rate limits and full AI search and SQL queries (with Notion AI). Guests cannot connect.

Should I use the npm notion-mcp-server instead?

Notion says that open-source server is no longer actively maintained and recommends the hosted Notion MCP for most users.

Can Notion MCP delete my pages, and is there a read-only mode?

Its tool list includes delete tools such as notion-delete-pages. No read-only switch was found in the docs read. Access is limited to what your account can open, and you can set per-tool permissions in Claude.
