Slack MCP server & Claude connector

Does Slack have an official MCP server or Claude connector?

Official

As of October 2026, Slack publishes an official remote MCP server at mcp.slack.com/mcp, and Anthropic lists it as a verified Claude connector made by Slack. It uses OAuth with per-tool user scopes, and workspace admins must approve the client. It can send messages and edit canvases, so review permissions before enabling.

Setup

Claude Code

Install Slack's plugin, which configures the MCP server; then authenticate with OAuth. Requires a workspace where the admin approved the MCP integration.

/plugin install slack
Source

Claude (claude.ai / Desktop)

In Claude Desktop open Customize, then Connectors, click + and add Slack, then complete OAuth. For claude.ai, an Owner enables the Slack connector under Organization settings > Connectors and members connect under Customize > Connectors.

Cursor

Slack lists Cursor as a partner MCP client. The docs read gave no Cursor config snippet.

Safety check

  • Pass

    Publisher verified

Endpoint mcp.slack.com and docs on docs.slack.dev are Slack-owned; Anthropic's directory lists the connector as 'Made by Slack' with connector URL https://mcp.slack.com/mcp.

  • Pass

    Auth model

Confidential OAuth (client_id and client_secret) against slack.com/oauth/v2_user/authorize; each tool needs specific user-token scopes. Only directory-published or internal apps may connect; admins approve clients. Dynamic client registration is not supported.

  • Flag

    Write and delete access

Write tools exist (send message, schedule/draft messages, create conversations, reactions, canvas edits, file upload, lists). No read-only mode was found in the docs read, but write tools need separate scopes (e.g. chat:write), so scopes can be withheld, and Claude can set per-tool permissions.

  • Unknown

    Tool-description injection scan

Slack publishes tool definitions at runtime via tools/list after authentication. Only tool names and the docs feature descriptions were read; live tool descriptions were not inspected.

  • Unknown

    Repo maintenance

Hosted by Slack; no public source repository for the server was found, so repo metadata does not apply.

Community alternatives

Built and maintained by third parties, not Slack. Check the safety notes before connecting one to a real account.

  • ⚠ Publisher verified: Independent community project, not Slack-owned.
  • ⚠ Auth model: Supports xoxc/xoxd browser session tokens ('stealth mode'), xoxp user tokens or xoxb bot tokens, supplied as environment variables. Browser session tokens are long-lived, broad and sit outside Slack's admin app-approval flow.

FAQ

Does Slack have an official MCP server?

Yes. Slack documents a remote MCP server at https://mcp.slack.com/mcp on docs.slack.dev, and Anthropic's connector directory lists it as made by Slack.

Is the Slack connector available on all Claude plans?

Claude's docs say the Slack connector is available on Team and Enterprise plans and requires the Claude in Slack app to be installed first. Anthropic's January 2026 announcement reportedly extended it to Pro and Max, but the current docs read still say Team and Enterprise, so check your plan.

Does it work with Cursor?

Slack lists Cursor among its partner MCP clients. The docs read gave no Cursor config snippet, so follow Slack's current instructions.

Is it safe, and can it be read-only?

Access is user-scoped OAuth, admins approve the client, and Claude only sees what your account can see. Write tools (send message, canvases) need their own scopes. No dedicated read-only mode was found, but you can withhold write scopes or set tool permissions in Claude.
