Datadog MCP server & Claude connector

Does Datadog have an official MCP server or Claude connector?

Official

As of October 2026, Datadog publishes an official remote MCP server, hosted by Datadog and documented on docs.datadoghq.com. It connects to Claude, Cursor and VS Code, signs in with OAuth, and covers logs, metrics, traces, monitors and incidents. Write tools exist but require a separate org-level MCP Write Access setting.

Setup

Claude (claude.ai / Desktop)

Install the Datadog connector from the Claude Connectors Directory and complete OAuth; or add a custom connector with your site's endpoint. Limit toolsets by appending ?toolsets=.

Claude Code

Add the US1 endpoint with Claude Code (replace the host for other Datadog sites).

Cursor

Install the Datadog Plugin from the Cursor Marketplace, then run /ddsetup in agent chat.

Safety check

  • Pass

    Publisher verified

Endpoint and setup are documented on docs.datadoghq.com; the datadog-labs/mcp-server repo is labelled the official Datadog MCP Server and links to Datadog docs. The datadog-labs GitHub org itself was not independently verified as vendor-owned beyond that cross-linking.

  • Pass

    Auth model

OAuth 2.0 is recommended; Personal/Service Access Tokens or API+application keys are optional header-based alternatives. Docs advise scoped service-account keys.

  • Flag

    Write and delete access

Write tools exist (notebooks, dashboards, monitors, cases, feature flags, APM rules, delete_datadog_dashboard is permanent). They need the mcp_write permission and the org's MCP Write Access setting, and can be limited via toolsets/omit_tools, but there is no single read-only switch.

  • Pass

    Tool-description injection scan

Read the documented tool list on the tools page and the setup page; found no text addressed to the AI. Tool descriptions in the live server were not inspected (server not run).

  • Pass

    Repo maintenance

datadog-labs/mcp-server: pushed 2026-10-16, not archived, 45 stars, MIT. Main server is hosted by Datadog.

FAQ

Is there an official Datadog MCP server?

Yes. Datadog documents a hosted remote MCP server on docs.datadoghq.com and the datadog-labs/mcp-server repo points to it.

Does Datadog's MCP server work with Claude?

Datadog's docs say to install the Datadog connector from the Claude Connectors Directory and complete OAuth, or add a custom connector using your site's endpoint.

Is the Datadog MCP server free?

The docs state no plan requirement but list fair-use limits (50 requests per 10 seconds; a monthly tool-call cap that the docs state differently across pages: 50,000 on the setup page, 100,000 on the overview). An org admin must enable MCP Access.

Can the Datadog MCP server be made read-only?

Not with a single switch. Write tools need the mcp_write permission and the org's MCP Write Access setting, and you can restrict tools with the toolsets and omit_tools parameters.

Does it work on Datadog gov sites?

The setup docs say it is not supported on ddog-gov.com sites.
