Unreal Engine MCP server & Claude connector
Does Unreal Engine have an official MCP server or Claude connector?
Official
As of October 2026, Epic Games documents an experimental Unreal MCP plugin in Unreal Engine 5.8 that runs an MCP server inside the editor on localhost. It has no authentication layer and Epic says not to expose it beyond your machine. Setup generates configs for Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. Community servers also exist for earlier versions.

Publisher verified
Documented on dev.epicgames.com as an Unreal Engine 5.8 feature (Epic Games' documentation site). Shipped as engine plugins, not a separate repo.

Auth model
No authentication. Epic's page states 'There is no authentication layer; the plugin is not safe to expose beyond the local machine.' Binds to 127.0.0.1 by default and rejects non-loopback Origin headers.

Write and delete access
call_tool dispatches editor toolsets (scene, actor, material, object editing). Epic does not describe a read-only mode; exact per-tool read/write behavior is not listed.

Tool-description injection scan
Read Epic's docs page, which has no AI-directed text. Individual toolset tool descriptions were not read.
- Unknown
Repo maintenance
Part of Unreal Engine's source, not a separate public repository; Epic labels the feature Experimental and says APIs and data formats may change.
Community alternatives
Built and maintained by third parties, not Unreal Engine. Check the safety notes before connecting one to a real account.

FAQ
Does Unreal Engine have an official MCP server?
Yes, experimentally. Epic's UE 5.8 documentation describes an Unreal MCP plugin that runs an MCP server inside the editor.
Is it safe to expose?
No. Epic says there is no authentication layer and the plugin is not safe to expose beyond the local machine. It binds to loopback by default.
Which clients does it configure?
Epic's docs list generated configs for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini, Codex or all of them.
What about older engine versions?
The official plugin is documented for 5.8. Community servers such as GenOrca/unreal-mcp target other setups; check each README.
Is it a Claude connector?
Not verified. It is a local editor plugin, and no claude.com connector page was found.
