Unity verdict

As of October 2026, Unity's official MCP route is the Unity CLI's 'unity mcp' command, documented on docs.unity.com as the replacement for the in-Editor MCP server in the AI Assistant package, which Unity has deprecated. The CLI is free and local, and needs Unity 6.0 LTS or later to drive an Editor. Unity's May 2026 blog still calls the older server open beta.

Unreal Engine verdict

As of October 2026, Epic Games documents an experimental Unreal MCP plugin in Unreal Engine 5.8 that runs an MCP server inside the editor on localhost. It has no authentication layer and Epic says not to expose it beyond your machine. Setup generates configs for Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. Community servers also exist for earlier versions.
