Does shadcn/ui have an official MCP server or Claude connector?

Official

As of October 2026, shadcn/ui ships an official MCP server inside its own CLI, documented at ui.shadcn.com and built in the shadcn-ui GitHub repo. It runs locally with npx shadcn@latest mcp, needs no login for the default registry, and its tools search registries and return add commands. No Claude connector was confirmed.

FAQ

Does shadcn/ui have an official MCP server?

Yes. It is part of the shadcn CLI: run npx shadcn@latest mcp. Docs are at ui.shadcn.com/docs/mcp.

Is shadcn a Claude connector?

Not confirmed. claude.com/connectors/shadcn returned 404 and no listing was found in Anthropic's directory. You can add it to Claude Code through .mcp.json.

Is it a hosted server?

No. It runs locally on your machine through npx.

Can it install components for me?

The tools search and view registry items and return the add command; the install itself is the shadcn CLI run by you or your agent.

Does it support private registries?

Yes. Configure registries in components.json and keep tokens in .env.local.
