Obsidian MCP server & Claude connector
Does Obsidian have an official MCP server or Claude connector?
Community only
As of October 2026, no official Obsidian MCP server was verified. Obsidian ships its own CLI for scripting and agentic tools, but that is not MCP. Community servers, such as MarkusPfundstein/mcp-obsidian, run locally and talk to your vault through the Local REST API plugin using an API key, and can delete notes.

FAQ
Does Obsidian have an official MCP server?
No official Obsidian MCP server was verified as of October 2026. Obsidian publishes a CLI that its site pitches for agentic tools, but the page does not mention MCP.
Which Obsidian MCP server should I use with Claude?
MarkusPfundstein/mcp-obsidian and cyanheads/obsidian-mcp-server are the best-documented community options. Both connect through the Local REST API plugin.
Does it work with Claude and Cursor?
MarkusPfundstein's README documents Claude Desktop setup; other MCP clients such as Cursor can use the same command and environment settings. No Claude connector directory listing was found.
Can it delete my notes?
Both servers expose a delete tool and neither has a documented read-only mode, so back up or version your vault first. cyanheads supports an optional confirmation prompt for deletes.
