Official

As of October 2026, Apple's WebKit team publishes a Safari MCP server built into safaridriver, introduced in Safari 27 and Safari Technology Preview 247. It runs locally on a Mac, exposes 17 tools for debugging pages, and needs remote automation enabled in Safari's Developer settings. The server has no sign-in. It can run JavaScript and click through pages.

Safety check

  • Pass

    Publisher verified

Announced in a WebKit blog post by a Safari team author; the server is a flag on Apple's own /usr/bin/safaridriver binary.

  • Pass

    Auth model

No credentials. Local process; requires the user to enable remote automation and external agents in Safari Developer settings.

  • Flag

    Write and delete access

evaluate_javascript and page_interactions let an agent run code and click, type and submit in pages you have open; no read-only mode documented. Apple says it does not access AutoFill or other browsing data and makes no network calls itself.

  • Unknown

    Tool-description injection scan

Read the post's tool table and setup commands; no AI-directed text seen, but the tool descriptions inside safaridriver were not inspected.

  • Unknown

    Repo maintenance

Built into a closed-source system binary; bugs go to bugs.webkit.org. No repo to check.
