Zapier vs n8n: MCP servers compared
Which one works better with Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants? Here is what each vendor publishes, side by side, from our dated verdicts.
The short answer
- Both Zapier and n8n publish an official MCP server.
- Zapier is listed as a Claude connector; the other is not.
- Zapier's server is hosted, so there is nothing to install. The other runs differently.

- Safety flags to review: Zapier 1, n8n 1. See each verdict for details.

| Detail | Zapier | n8n |
|---|---|---|
| Verdict | Official | Official |
| Claude connector | Yes | Not confirmed |
| Server | Zapier MCP server (Zapier) | n8n instance-level MCP server (n8n) |
| How it runs | Hosted (remote URL) | Built into the product |
| Sign-in | OAuth sign-in | OAuth sign-in |
| Stage | Unknown | Unknown |
| Plan needed | Not gated to a paid plan in the docs read; each successful tool call uses two tasks from your plan, and sharing a server needs a Team or Enterprise plan. | Built into n8n (self-hosted or Cloud); an instance owner or admin must enable it. Plan or edition requirements are not stated in the docs. |
| Documented tools | 3 (1 read, 2 write) | 8 (4 read, 4 write) |
| Can delete data | No documented delete tools | No documented delete tools |
| Safety flags | Tools are real actions in connected apps (send, create, update), so write access depends on which tools and app connections you enable. No read-only mode was found in the docs read; docs mention workspace access controls and audit history. | Clients can execute, publish and unpublish workflows and, from n8n 2.13.0, create and edit workflows and data tables. Mitigation: nothing is accessible until a workflow is marked 'Available in MCP' (per workflow, project or folder); access is not scoped per client. No read-only mode documented. |

Zapier verdict
As of October 2026, Zapier runs its own hosted MCP server, documented on docs.zapier.com and listed in Anthropic's connector directory as Anthropic verified. It signs in with OAuth and works through Streamable HTTP. It also acts as a bridge: each tool is an action in one of 9,000+ connected apps, and each call uses two tasks.
Setup, tools and safety check for Zapier →n8n verdict
As of October 2026, n8n has an official, built-in MCP server (instance-level MCP) that exposes workflows you opt in to any MCP client, using OAuth or a personal access token. Separately, a popular community project, czlonkowski/n8n-mcp, offers node documentation and workflow management tools. Caveat: the community server can edit or delete production workflows.
