Blender MCP server & Claude connector
Does Blender have an official MCP server or Claude connector?
Official
As of October 2026, Blender Lab, the Blender project's experimental division, publishes an official MCP server and add-on for Blender 5.1 or newer. It runs locally: the add-on inside Blender talks to a separate server process. It can execute LLM-written Python in your scene, and Blender warns it has no safeguards, so use a VM or non-sensitive machine.

Setup
Other clients
Install the add-on in Blender (drag the zip in twice: once to add the Blender Lab repository, once to install), then use the .mcpb bundle if your client supports it, or install the server from source per the project wiki. llama.cpp is the documented reference client.

Publisher verified
Documented on blender.org/lab and hosted at projects.blender.org/lab, Blender's own Git server; Claude's directory lists Blender Lab as publisher with an Anthropic verified badge.

Auth model
Local add-on plus local server over a TCP socket; no account or API key documented.

Write and delete access
execute_blender_code runs arbitrary LLM-generated Python in Blender. Blender's page warns there are no safeguards against data deletion or exfiltration and recommends a VM or machine without sensitive data. No read-only mode was documented.

Tool-description injection scan
Read the generated tool listing in readme_tools.rst (26 tools); descriptions are plain functional text with no instructions to the AI.

- ⚠ Publisher verified: Community project by an individual developer; README states it is not affiliated with the Blender Foundation. The repo was renamed from blender-mcp to mcp-for-blender.
- ⚠ Write and delete access: execute_blender_code runs arbitrary Python; README warns it is dangerous. An opt-in safe mode (BLENDER_MCP_SAFE_MODE=1) blocks risky scripts, but it is off by default.

FAQ
Is there an official Blender MCP server?
Yes. Blender Lab publishes an MCP server and add-on, documented at blender.org/lab/mcp-server and hosted on projects.blender.org. It needs Blender 5.1 or newer. The popular blender-mcp project on GitHub is a separate community project.
Is there a Blender connector for Claude?
Claude's connector directory lists a Blender connector published by Blender Lab with an Anthropic verified badge, added April 2026. It still requires the Blender add-on running locally.
Is the Blender MCP server safe?
It can run LLM-generated Python inside Blender, and Blender states there are no safeguards against deleting or sending out your data. Blender recommends a virtual machine or a machine without sensitive information. Save your work first.
What is the difference between the official and community Blender MCP?
The official Blender Lab server focuses on scene inspection, docs lookup and screenshots plus code execution. The community mcp-for-blender adds asset search and AI 3D model generation, has a much larger user base, and is not affiliated with the Blender Foundation.
